SiDE Showcase

Introducing BESiDE and our early findings on activity analysis of care home residents

BESiDE was represented with a demo and information booth at the SiDE Showcase on the 15th of January in the Banqueting Hall of the Newcastle Civics Centre. Sebastian Stein introduced the project to members of the user pool, industry representatives and fellow academics, and received very encouraging feedback. He also presented our latest findings on activity analysis of care home residents.

All parties were very positive about the project, highlighting the currently unmet needs and issues BESiDE aims to address. One Voice North member was hopeful that some of our findings would be implemented by the time he moves into a care home. Paul Thomas from Microsoft pointed out that they are currently looking into care home resident rehabilitation using similar wearable technology. Sebastian also got to speak to Geoff Eligham, Your Home Newcastle, who is leading a project that aims to provide care home residents with internet access.

is one of the three spanning across Newcastle University and University of Dundee. The idea behind the BESiDE project was initially explored as part of SiDE before it received its own funding. The event featured demonstrations of projects from across the SiDE portfolio including Accessibility, Transport, Connected Home & Community and Creative Industries.
