Perspective of model of building with dots marking location of users

First trials of BESiDE Indoor Location Sensor

The BESiDE technology team developed a sensing and information management infrastructure for recording location and activity data. Devices were customised to monitor the location and activity of residents inside care homes. To solve the problem of getting accurate location information, the application of two different technologies: WiFi and Bluetooth were considered.  We ruled out ultrasound due to the limiting factors of size and battery requirements.

We initially had a working prototype running on a mobile phone providing live location information. The team created a working test bed in the laboratory at the University of Newcastle to collect location and activity data; this allowed us to test the different Bluetooth and WiFi sensors.  We have also collected sample data which was used for designing data analysis and application development.
