Prof. Claire Goodman

Advisory Board Member

I was appointed Professor of Health Care Research at the Centre for Research in Primary and Community Care at the University of Hertfordshire in 2005.I have a background in nursing and district nursing. My research focuses on the oldest old and how primary health care works with social care and long term care providers to support this population, especially, when there is a degree of cognitive impairment. I lead a programme of nationally funded studies on health care provision to care homes that includes evaluations of interventions to support access to health care for residents and end of life care for older people with dementia. I sit on various funding committees including the NIHR HSDR Commissioning Board and the Alzheimer's Society . I am a founder member of the Enabling Research in Care Homes (ENRICH) project board that is run through the Dementia and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Network ( DeNDRoN). I am co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Primary Care and Community Nursing.

BESiDE represents a new area of research for me that complements the work I have done with care homes and residents. I am particularly interested in how the involvement of the residents and staff will inform and shape the project.
