Webinars from Dementia Action Alliance

Dementia Action Alliance is currently running a free webinar programme centred around Dementia friendly care and design. The BESiDE team have attended two of their sessions so far; ‘Dementia Friendly Housing and Gardens’ from Professor June Andrews at University of Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre and ‘Design for Dementia in Practice’ from Damian Utton, Partner and Care & Environment sector leader at Architecture firm, Pozzoni. Focusing on both small interior design adaptations and full scale environment design, both sessions were illuminating, enhancing the BESiDE design team’s general knowledge and understanding of good design practice when working with older adults living with dementia. The team anticipates that this new knowledge will enable them to engage more fully with residents in care homes, tailoring their design and making activities to suit the needs and capabilities of those residents living with dementia or Alzheimer’s; using materials and spaces that can be easily seen and navigated and facilitate choice, independence and personalisation.

The team would recommend these sessions to other designers, researchers and professionals and will themselves attend future webinars from Dementia Action Alliance.
